All
right guys, here we are! Time is passing by very fast and we are already in the
middle of April right at the gate of Easter Holiday!
In
the last weeks we managed to visit more climbing areas, all of them very nice
and always with a great variety of lines both in terms of styles and climbing
grades.
What is really amazing is that all of them are contained in a 20´driving circle and with very easy approaches, which makes the whole process so fast, easy and accessible that every time we are on the way back after a full day of climb we think…WOW are we already back home!?!
During
my experience in Vietnam and Thailand a climbing weekend was always more like a
real climbing trip involving several means of transportations, a meticulous
preparation, and an overnight which make of every trip a little adventure.
Here
in Palma everything is much more casual and can be really organized last
minute, a part from our need of being able to find additional climbing partners
and get some support to look after our son Ettore!
Here
is a short list of some very friendly climbing locations:
Ca´s Català – is a long crag of orange and
grey rock featuring some easy but interesting climbs from 5a up to 6c. The crag
is literally inside the city yet it remains hidden behind a hill facing a nice
little valley. 10 minutes approach from the car and 10 minutes from the closer
beach club! The day we went to this place Ettore walked all his way back to the
car!
Puis de Garrafa – this crag is located on the
way to Andratx and consists on a number of buttresses featuring very different
climbing style and grades. Here I tried my first 7c called Sarcofago, an amazing line which is currently
the project of Sergi, a local climber we are regularly climbing with.
S´estret – this area is on the way to
Vallemossa, just 20 km from Palma. The area is big and we visited only the crag
of Cuaranton which features some easy routes
perfect for beginners, but also a sequence of very steep lines 6c/6c+/7a/7a+
not to miss the powerful dyno of Mexican Forever 6c+
All
of them have a very easy approach, super easy to find following the indication
of the Rockfax guidebook and absolutely excellent
for the kids.
Stay
tuned, Climb harder!
