I must admit I have never been a good christian and for sure in the very last eight years spent in non-christian countries I couldn't even remember that magic atmosphere of knowing that from Holy Thursday until Monday of Easter in front of you there is only one mantra: Eat, Climb, Sleep...Repeat.
Since we moved to Mallorca we have been climbing almost every weekend, yet we were still missing what turned out to be the best climbing location so far, Caimari!
Caimari is a little town located 35 Km from Palma (such a long driving distance!!!!) immerse in the green of the local mountainous area.
Caimari climbing area consists in three main crags, Hairpin Wall, Secotr Cueva, Muro de Caimari and Comuna di Caimari where we spent our very last two climbing days.
The approach is generally easy, yet since it is a bit steep if you are carrying a baby with, you better off having a robust carrier.
In addition, bearing in mind the whole belay area is also not very flat I honestly wouldn't say that this is the best location to go climbing with small babies, yet in our case we spent two consecutive days in here with Ettore, and he just loved it.
The rock is simply fantastic. Massive limestone walls offering different climbing styles and grades featuring long vertical lines on crimps and small holes. There are a number of great routes from 5a up to 6c, some fantastic lines in between 7a and 7b+ and some very intimidating 8s.
If I must find a negative point of this crag is probably the exposure: West ,which means that in winter it gets too cold because it does not have much sun, and in summer climbing is possible only in the morning for the opposite reason. As such middle seasons like spring and autumn are the best and therefore we will surely come back here soon.
Among the routes we climbed the best was surely Las bolas del chino 7a+ an amazing long journey of 32m through crimps, holes and a sustained finish on overhang pocketed wall! A perfect line!
