As many of
you already know, our little family has recently relocated to Palma de Mallorca,
Spain and many things have already happened since then.
Considering
we were moving for good and not for holidays, we extensively spent the first 2
weeks looking for a house, looking for a car, discovering the city and of
course looking for other climbers to start exploring the climbing potential of
this beautiful island.
Funny
enough, even before having found a house and having purchased a car we had already
bought the local climbing guide book and we could tick off two climbing trips
on our agenda!
Before
moving to Palma I had already joined the two most important local facebook
groups Escalada en Mallorca and even more crucial, Escalada en Familia Mallorca,
which is a group fully dedicated to climbing with kids.
As you can
guess it wasn’t very hard to meet the local climbing community!
On our
first climbing trip we went to a place called Sa Cantera, a nice little crag
with some easy but interesting routes, while on the second exit we went to CalaMagraner, a beautiful crag facing the sea and with loads of routes.
What is
remarkable is that in both occasions we didn’t drive for more than 45’ which is
quite reliving if we consider the driving time we were facing in Thailand and
therefore the significantly reduced amount of crying-time on board!
Both
locations are quite kids friendly, a part from a 15 minutes easy-walk approach
which obviously requires having a baby carrier or a baby-backpack to hike, and
in fact we met many other climbers with their children.
Although kids’
age can vary a lot it’s awesome to see how parents can reciprocally help each
other, and share different level of fatherhood experience, both in terms of
daily kids handling and most important, in terms of enjoying outdoors with our
lovely creatures.
From now on
I will try to focus my writing on the fatherhood aspect of being a climber and
this is why the blog has changed name and layout!
Hope you
will enjoy it and keep on following our little stories!
