Sunshine, nenes y Pollo Amarillo...

A few days ago Ivan Guardia, an active mallorquin local climber, did a great job updating names and grades of  a sector called C´as Catalá, and sharing it on the facebook group Escalada en Mallorca.

Almost immediately a discussion about the notorious route Pollo Amarillo fired up.

Pollo Amarillo is relatively short route initially graded 6C+ that offers nice movements on ergonomic holes on its initial part, followed by a very hard session on painful small crimps that leads to the anchor.

I personally tried this line right before Xmas and I was badly kicked out.

Talking to other climbers I quickly realized that in many hadn't been able to send this route yet, and as far the discussion started on facebook, eventually everybody agreed to upgrade this route to 7a.

C'as Catalá is a small crag located in the hearth of Palma getting sun the whole day, staying warm even in the coldest day, featuring nice climbs and perfect to go with babies.

As such, considering the recent route upgrade and the lower temperatures we decided to go to have a look to Pollo Amarillo once again, and to enjoy our Sarturday off with our families.

The group was composed by Sergi and his daughter Blanca, Braden, Evelyne and their kids Max and Alma, Supranee, Ettore and myself.

The weather was just great. We got sunshine the whole day and temperature were up to 20 degrees,

The kids were having a great time socializing, breaking stones climbing and taking naps. Mamies and Papies where alternatively climbing and helping each other with the kids and of course…trying to solve the Pollo Amarillo rebus!

Sergi sat up the route at first and he gave it a try but he didn´t manage to link a good combination of moves. Then, on my turn, I came up with a possible solution, but  I miserably fell off on my second attempt.

Eventually Braden managed to unlock a better sequence on top rope, yet when he tried to lead it, he was not able to repeat it and he was also rejected.

By the end of the climbing day we were just laughing laud at each other, not being able once again to gain the anchor of this route.

Eventually Pollo Amarillo wins again, beside his grade, this time 3-0.
